Southwest and Archer to collaborate on eVTOL operational concepts

Southwest Airlines and Archer Aviation have signed an agreement to develop operational concepts for an air taxi network,

Southwest Airlines and Archer Aviation have signed an agreement to develop operational concepts for an air taxi network, utilising the latter’s Midnight eVTOL.

The pair will initially explore integrated air taxi networks supporting airports in California and the surrounding areas that Southwest currently serves. This collaboration will include partnering with Southwest employees and unions, including SWAPA. Southwest and Archer’s partnership is expected to continues “over the next few years as eVTOLs take flight”.

 As California’s largest carrier for over 25 years, “integrating Archer’s electric aircraft into the travel journey potentially gives us an innovative opportunity to enhance the experience of flying Southwest,” said Paul Cullen, vice president of real estate at Southwest Airlines. “Southwest is eager to explore the convenience Archer’s air taxis could provide customers flying Southwest at airports in busy urban areas”.

Dee Dee Myers, senior advisor to Governor Gavin Newsom and director of the Governor’s office of business and economic development, added: “Archer’s collaboration with Southwest to introduce air taxis in California showcases our state’s dedication to climate innovation and advanced technology”.
